Impact
Paintball began life in September 2000 and was originally located just outside
Preston in Lancashire. The site was not ideal, as there were a number of issues
- one being that we only had one area to play in, customers had to walk for over
fifteen minutes to get to the site and over boggy land, and finally navigate over
a stream. Shorty
after a few events we had to move as the site was located next to a diary farm,
and the BSE crisis was starting to gain ground. This
was a blessing in disguise - after many weeks of searching for a new venue we
approached Whyndyke Farms in Blackpool. The owners were and still are fantastic,
everything that we wanted to do the answer was positive. What a difference to
the previous site, where we had to fight nearly every step of the way to get things
done with the landowner. We
were given one building, which used to be a storage area, and was located right
in the corner of the farmyard with an exit leading straight to the playing area.
We spent the next few months getting setup, painting, diy, and setting the site
up with barriers and bails of hay. We
soon became, after a period of quiet, very busy. It was starting to get so busy
that things needed putting in place to handle the administration as well as additional
marshals requiring training to cope with the numbers who were booking to play
paintball. Marshals
were one of the biggest problems, as we only required them on a casual basis.
Obviously this in a not a career nor a guaranteed working week. We soon managed
to get enough marshals trained and available to cover our events as more and more
were also coming to play during the week, especially businesses. We now have enough
marshals to cover all events, some old and some new but we are always on the look
out for extras, preferably with no former paintball experience as we work completely
differently to other paintball companies. All marshals must be over the age of
eighteen to work at Impact Leisure Ltd. Next
was the administration, this is when Fiona came on board and thanks to her considerable
help the number of particpants has grown and grown. Once we started we could handle
about sixteen people, now during the season we can easily accomodate 200 people
in a day with three groups playing on our site at any one time. Very
soon after that, George joined (Fiona's husband) as site manager. He continues
to work amazing hours constructing, repairing and designing the site, its games,
and maintenance of the buildings. As a note we now have taken over all but two
of the buildings in the farmyard at Whyndyke Farm! We
also have full catering facilities in form of a cafe, eating areas, training areas
and changing room. One of the other advantages of this site is that we have both
male and female flushing toilets, which is a rarity at sites. |
